A&D Weighing Introduces the New Ion Series
A & D Weighing announces the launch of the Ion Series of laboratory balances, including A&D’s first two microbalances with readability down to one microgram
( 1 millionth of a gram ). This family of six models has combined innovations such as a large weighing chamber, built-in ionizer to eliminate static electricity and increase weighing accuracy, and a range of other standard accessories and features to provide a complete precision weighing solution.
The six models of the Ion Series range in capacity up to 520 grams with resolution as low as 0.001 mg. The six models, with capacity and resolution are:
BM-20, 22 g 0.001 mg ; BM-22, 5/22 g, 0.001/0.01 mg; BM-252, 250 g, 0.01 mg; BM-200, 220 g, 0.1 mg; BM-300, 320 g, 0.1 mg; BM-500, 520 g, 0.1 mg.
To achieve microgram-level resolution, yet still provide a large weighing chamber, A&D developed an innovative dual-ring breeze break structure in the two microbalances, the BM-20 and BM-22, which makes a secondary (inner) breeze break unnecessary.
Static electricity can seriously compromise precision weighing, especially at the microgram level. In fact, A&D considers static control so important, the fan-less direct current (DC) ionizer is built-in and standard on all Ion Series models. The fan-less DC technique was selected because it offers superior performance. It removes static from weigh boats and common laboratory containers including glassware, which can become charged just from normal handling. And because there is no fan, static in fine powders can be neutralized without the risk of them blowing away.
As in the case of static, environmental factors also play a key role in precision weighing. Ion Series balances have built-in sensors to monitor conditions: temperature, relative humidity and atmospheric pressure. These parameters can be measured and exported to the AD-1688 Data Logger (comes standard with all models) which can continuously log data over a 24-hour period without the need for a PC. This sensor data can then be downloaded to a software tool developed by A&D to help users understand and evaluate their actual weighing environment.
The two models of microbalances, the BM-20 and BM-22 also include dedicated filter weighing pans as standard accessories. These find use in weighing particulate matter filters such as those in auto emissions testing.
