WALTHAM, MA — The Olympus CKX53 is a next-generation inverted microscope designed for fast, efficient cell culture checking and documentation. The CKX53’s advanced imaging capabilities and user-friendly design reduce operator fatigue and improve cell culture throughput.

In fields like regenerative medicine and drug discovery, stem cells are continuously produced via cell culturing. The CKX53 makes inspecting cell and tissue cultures more efficient with a combination of advanced optical and ergonomic features. The microscope combines leading-edge Olympus UIS2 objectives for excellent clarity and resolution, with a newly developed integrated phase contrast system that enables the operator to view samples at 4x, 10x, 20x, and 40x easily, without exchanging or re-centering the ring slit. Brightfield imaging is improved with a new energy-efficient, long-life LED light source that is brighter than earlier halogen bulb systems. In addition, the color temperature of the LEDs is optimized for cell culture observation to enhance color reproducibility when raising or lowering the brightness level.

The CKX53 is built for workflow efficiency without sacrificing user comfort. All of the microscope controls are ergonomically located in the same area of the microscope for easy adjustments with minimal hand movement. The optical axis and focusing knobs are closer together for natural hand positioning when adjusting the focus. During periods of long-term use, this improves user comfort and reduces fatigue. The microscope is 20 percent lighter than previous models so it can be moved as needed and placed on a sterile bench when aseptic conditions are required. Since lab space is at a premium, the CKX53 has a small footprint and takes up minimal space.
