Coherent, Inc. has become the first laser manufacturer to offer a complete solution for 2D infrared spectroscopy
Santa Clara, Calif., – Coherent, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) (Nasdaq: COHR) has become the first laser manufacturer to offer a complete solution for 2D infrared spectroscopy, following an exclusive agreement to distribute 2DQuick spectrometers from PhaseTech Spectroscopy Inc. (www.phasetechspectroscopy.com, Madison, WI). The availability of an integrated system will simplify access for researchers to this important ultrafast methodology for investigating molecular dynamics. Specifically, this technique can provide unique data on intramolecular coherence effects, coupled vibrations, and anharmonic vibrational overtones. This information can be used to study a wide variety of molecular systems including ultrafast chemical equilibria, real-time protein kinetics, and molecular conformations.
Based on the pioneering work of Professor Martin Zanni (University of Wisconsin at Madison), 2DQuick is the only commercially-available 2D infrared spectrometer. 2DQuick integrates all the necessary photonic hardware in a single, robust unit controlled by an intuitive graphical user interface. This includes an acousto-optic modulator to shape pulses and provide precise delays, dispersive gratings, and a single point photodetector. It is designed to work over the 3.5 to 6.85 µm wavelength region, thus covering the most widely studied vibrations of proteins, DNA/RNA, metal carbonyls and water. Tunable ultrafast pulses over this entire region are conveniently produced from a Coherent optical parametric oscillator(Opera Solo or TOPAS), pumped by a Libra one-box ultrafast amplifier or Legend Elite series amplifier.
PhaseTech founder Zanni explains, “The Libra and OPA in our laboratory at UW-Madison is a perfect match for our proven approach to 2D infrared spectroscopy. We are very excited about this new agreement because we believe that Coherent’s technical leadership in ultrafast lasers, together with their worldwide sales and service support, are a perfect match to bring the benefits of our spectrometer to the broadest possible base of users.”
Founded in 1966, Coherent, Inc. is a world leader in providing photonics based solutions to the commercial and scientific research markets, and is part of the Standard & Poor’s Small Cap 600 Index and the Russell 2000.
