X-Rite Announces New Linux and Mac SDK for Hubble Non-contact, Laser-Guided Colorimeter
Allows third party Linux and Mac developers to build custom solutions
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.–X-Rite, Incorporated (NASDAQ: XRIT – News), the world leader in color management, measurement and communication technologies, today announced that it has developed a new software development toolkit (SDK) for its Hubble non-contact laser-guided colorimeter.
Available immediately for both Linux and Mac-based applications to complement the existing Windows version, the new Hubble SDK allows third party developers and OEMs to design their own integrated display calibration applications to create cost-effective color-managed workflows for high-end color displays such as cinema production, post- production, home theater, digital cinema and digital signage.
Hubble allows for consistent and precisely calibrated viewing on all types of displays including LCD, LCD/RPTV, direct view CRT, CRT/ RPTV, front projectors and plasma, at a fraction of the cost of high-end display color measurement devices that are traditionally used by media and entertainment professionals.
Cine-tal Systems, a developer of image monitoring and color management solutions, partnered with X-Rite for the development of the Linux and Mac-based applications in order to make use of the Hubble in a cross platform fashion with the cineSpace color management software suite.
“A significant portion of the creative services industry is powered by the Mac and Linux computing platforms. Bringing support for the Hubble to these users helps us to better serve our customers’ color management needs, in a cost effective manner,” says Richard Schott of Cine-tal Systems.
V2.7.2 of cineSpace includes support for the Hubble on the Mac OSX (Intel only), and Linux platforms, and is available for purchase today.
Hubble is perfect as a primary instrument for single-instrument applications; it can also provides a high-accuracy secondary reference through simple calibration to the primary instrument, thereby providing the opportunity to own many portable secondary references for the cost of a single primary reference.
With the SDK, customers can calibrate Hubble to their own standards and use it to match their expensive reference instruments. Thanks to the SDK, users can also take a measurement from their display and import the results directly into their applications, allowing customers to create a tightly integrated and precisely accurate color management workflow.
A number of OEM partners, including ARRI, the world’s largest manufacturer of professional motion picture equipment, Sencore, a world leader in content delivery solutions, Spectracal, a leading developer of home theatre calibration software, have already developed custom solutions using the Windows version of the SDK.
