Analytik Jena aquires majority of distributor in Romania

Analytik Jena expands in South East Europe

Backdated to the start of the fiscal year (01.10.2008), Analytik Jena took over 70% of the company shares of a Romanian company based on a cash-share deal. The remaining shares stay with Viorel Domitrescu, the founder of the company. The business management will remain with Carmen Vasilescu, the daughter of the founder. The company is distributing products of Analytik Jena since 1991. It operated under the name of AJ Romania SRL based on a license for use. For the last 3 years, Romania belonged to a group of countries which had an increased growth for the products of Analytik Jena. Only in the beginning of the year Analytik Jena won the European bid invitation for supplying the most important environmental laboratories with analytical technologies. The delivery with a volume of approx. EUR 0.8 million was completed this summer.

The business operations of the new Analytik Jena subsidiary focus on the distribution and after sales service of the analysis systems. The target is a further extension of the direct distribution for the total product portfolio of Analytik Jena. To reach this goal, the company with headquarters in Jena, Germany, plans to build a modern competence center in Romania to fulfill the growing demand on the south-eastern European market.

The chief executive of Analytik Jena AG, Klaus Berka, explained the investment: “We already have a strong presence and a good penetration of the market in Romania. Last year we were able to reach the forth position of the highest country specific total revenue. We intend AJ Romania to be our hub for Eastern Europe. Based on the successful work of the founder Mr. Vasilescu for many years and an exemplary customer base we see great chances for a further successful development of the south-eastern European market.”

The purchase is the consequent implementation of the internationalization strategy of Analytik Jena. Analytik Jena constantly extends the sales and marketing activities in the fast growing emerging markets in eastern Europe and Asia. As a result, Analytik Jena already opened a subsidiary in Japan two years ago. At the beginning of the year, Analytik Jena was awarded the contract for the equipment of 4 central environment laboratories of the republic Romania for recording and ensuring the quality of the water.
