One-channel Zoom Microscope

New accessories expand the application range of SteREO Discovery stereomicroscopes

JENA/Germany, STUTTGART/Germany, 05.05.2009.

In the future, SteREO Discovery stereomicroscopes from Carl Zeiss with their new accessories can also be used as single-channel zoom microscopes to enable more efficient work without sacrificing the high quality of the results. Speed and precision are major requirements particularly in industrial production control and quality assurance where inspection, documentation and the measurement of structures and components are part of everyday routine.

The new accessories include a coded, 3-position nosepiece and a motorized Y intermediate tube. The SteREO Discovery.V20 thus offers a high, continuously variable magnification range of up to 233:1, providing the user with safe viewing of a 3D image, convenient binocular observation at maximum resolution and parallax-free documentation over the entire magnification range with only one microscope. Fast and reliable zooming into object details with a structure width of up to 0.5 micrometers is possible from low- power magnifications with a field diameter of up to 11 millimeters.

The new parfocality manager from Carl Zeiss ensures that the microscope image always remains exactly in focus so that no refocusing is required after a change of the objective in the nosepiece.

Furthermore, beam delivery of the overall system is automatically adjusted on the nosepiece after the change between stereo observation and parallax-free, single-channel vertical observation. This guarantees permanent binocular observation in both 3D and 2D. Faulty operation can be practically ruled out.

Many other improvements make microscopy more convenient. The ring illuminators developed for the nosepiece ensure consistent reflected-light illumination without annoying cables and light guides. The system’s light manager function automatically adapts the brightness to the magnification used.

Equipped with the AxioCam digital microscope camera and the AxioVision software, the SteREO Discovery.V20 is particularly well-suited for observation and the professional documentation of materials and components.

Thanks to the new accessories, SteREO Discovery stereomicroscopes achieve an optical, continuously variable magnification range of up
