Eluent Generation and Eluent Regeneration Fully Compliant with New ISO Standard for Water Quality Anion Analysis
Sunnyvale, CA—Use of Dionex Reagent-Free™ ion chromatography (RFIC™) systems with eluent generation (EG) and eluent regeneration (ER) technology (RFIC-EG™ and RFIC-ER™ systems) is compliant with the newly released International Organization for Standards (ISO) water quality standard. The new standard for anion analysis by ion chromatography, titled Water Quality—Determination of Dissolved Anions by Liquid Chromatography of Ions—Part 1: Determination of Bromide,
Chloride, Fluoride, Nitrate, Nitrite, Phosphate and Sulfate (ISO 10304-1:2007), replaces earlier tandards ISO 10304-1:1995-04 and ISO 10304-2:1996-11. The new standard combines the earlier standards into one, removing the differentiation between simple and difficult sample matrices.
Customers using EG and ER are now able to enjoy the benefits of the performance and convenience afforded by these techniques while complying with the ISO norm for anion analysis. EG, for example, enables the use of gradient techniques to accelerate and improve the quality of separations, without the need for manual eluent preparation. ER reduces operational costs by providing the user with the ability to operate an ion chromatograph continuously for a month without changing the eluent, and improves throughput by reducing equilibration and calibration time.
Any separation which meets the requirement of a minimum resolution of 1.3 between neighboring peaks of interest may be applied to the analysis, permitting the use of hydroxide eluents and gradient separations. Customers may select from among the many DionexI onPac® columns. For the convenience of RFIC-ER, the IonPac AS22 column is recommended; for RFIC-EG performance and gradient capability, choose an IonPac AS18 column.
