Revolutionary New Routine for Accurate Element Identification

MAHWAH, NJ – EDAX Inc., a leader in X-ray microanalysis and electron diffraction instrumentation, has launched EXpert ID.

“Superior X-ray microanalysis is based on correct identification of the peaks in the spectrum. Otherwise the analysis is built on a ‘garbage-in, garbage-out’ principle,” explains Del Redfern, Product Marketing Manager for EDAX. “Today, most peak identification routines employ a rules-based algorithm, which at best provides reasonable accuracy.”

“All EDS vendors currently employ some form of peak simulation to overlay the spectrum to provide a visual confirmation that the peak identification is acceptable,” adds Redfern. “EDAX has taken that a step further and now offers a new revolutionary element identification routine–EXpert ID.

Based on an advanced physics and rules-based algorithm, EXpert ID provides a significant increase in peak identification accuracy. It uses an interactive process to supply the materials characterization scientist with the most accurate element identification available.

“EXpert ID provides accurate element identification in one easy step, employing a novel background fitting routine,” notes Redfern. “With Expert ID, Genesis software from EDAX provides the materials characterization scientist with the ability to generate data from accurate quantitative analysis to a multitude of maps.”

“Genesis 6-the latest version of the market-leading Genesis software–includes the EXpert ID routine helping establish the solid foundations of accurate element identification and providing results with the greatest confidence,” concludes Redfern.

EDAX is the acknowledged leader in Energy Dispersive Microanalysis, Electron BackScatter Diffraction instrumentation and X-ray Fluorescence instrumentation.
