Thermo Fisher Scientific announced in July the listing of its Thermo Scientific Prelude LX-4 MD HPLC with the FDA as a Class I medical device for general clinical use.

In September, Repligen appointed Glenn P. Muir to its Board. Most recently, he served as CFO and executive vice president of Hologic.

BIA Separations Slovenia announced it raised €1.5 million ($1.7 million) from risk capital fund META Ingenium, which it will use to expand its business to the food industry and strengthen its balance sheet. BIA Separations Slovenia’s largest shareholder, BIA Separations Austria, is undergoing a financial restructuring to prepare for a targeted strategic alliance.

Product Introductions

Agilent Technologies introduced in June the AdvanceBio oligonucleotide column, calling it the first high-pH, stable superficially porous particle–based column for oligonucleotide analysis.

GE Healthcare Life Sciences announced the extension of its ReadyToProcess prepacked bioprocess columns to include the cation exchange Capto S ImpAct chromatography medium, and multimodal Capto MMC ImpRes and Capto adhere ImpRes media.

Sartorius Stedim Biotech reconfigured its Sartobind membrane chromatography capsules, including the additions of a 2.5 L jumbo version, and Q, S and salt-tolerant STIC PA ion exchange columns. New features include higher binding capacities and lower buffer consumption. Also new are the 400 mL and 800 mL Sartobind Q, S and Phenyl capsules with a 8 mm bed height.

In August, JASCO introduced the SF-4000 Series SFC Systems: the SF-4000 for analytical SFC, the SP-4000 for semipreparative SFC and the PR-4088 for preparative SFC. The new PU-4380 pumps deliver up to 120 mL/min of carbon dioxide, and up to 80 mL/min of modifier and flush solvents at pressures up to 5000 psi.

Phenomenex added the Amylose-1 chiral stationary phase, available in 5 µm particles, to its Lux polysaccharide chiral column line for HPLC and SFC analysis and purification work.

Showa Denko’s Shodex business released the HILICpak VT-50 columns for analyzing anionic samples, including phosphorylated saccharides, and the OHpack LB-800 Series columns for aqueous SEC, which are compatible with MALS detectors.

In September, Shimadzu introduced the Prominence inert LC system, a metal-free system for analyzing aggregates or other biological macromolecules in biopharmaceuticals. It features the new LC-20Ai inert solvent delivery pump.

Thermo Fisher Scientific launched the Thermo Scientific EASY-nLC 1200 system with a pressure capacity of 1200 bar. Also introduced were Thermo Scientific Acclaim PepMap nanoLC columns, including a 75 cm format.
