MS & LC/MS

Company Announcements

Advion named KONIK an exclusive distributor for Spain, Portugal and South American countries, with the exception of Brazil.

LECO is supporting the West Coast Metabolomics Center, a consortium of research and service labs housed at the University of California, Davis, Genome Center. The Center gained access to a Citius LC-HRT TOF MS.

In February, Agilent gave Dr. Ronald A. DePinho, president of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, an Agilent Thought Leader Award to support his research into metabolic reprogramming in the earliest stages of cancer. The Award supports personnel and the use the 6550 iFunnel Q-TOF LC/MS.

In March, Agilent and Applied Proteomics agreed to collaborate on highly multiplexed protein assays and workflow solutions for multiple reaction monitoring through MS. Applied Proteomics will leverage the 6490 Triple Quadrupole MS/MS, 1290 Infinity LC, RapidFire 360 MS system and Bravo liquid handling technologies.

Agilent extended its collaboration with South Korea’s Chungnam National University, whose Graduate School of Analytical Science and Technology will establish the Asia Glycomics Education Center to support collaborative university/industry education and cross training. Agilent will install a 6540 Quadrupole TOF MS with Chip/2D nanoHPLC system.

Thermo Fisher Scientific entered into a Technology Alliance Partner agreement in March with scientists at the University of Birmingham, UK, that will focus on metabolomics. Thermo will work with Professor Mark Viant and Dr. Warwick Dunn to develop metabolite detection and identification approaches for environmental and clinical research. For proteomics, Thermo will work with Dr. Helen Cooper to exploit MS and gas-phase ion chemistry for top-down and bottom-up analysis of proteins. This is Thermo’s first Technology Alliance Partner in Europe.

Thermo Fisher Scientific announced in April that its San Jose, California, and Franklin, Massachusetts, sites achieved ISO 13485 certification, a standard of quality management for the manufacture of medical devices.

In April, 908 Devices and In-Q-Tel entered into a strategic partnership involving handheld MS.

Waters selected in April India-based St. John’s Research Institute for its Centers for Innovation Program for research in the field of structural proteomics.

Product Introductions

Prosolia launched in February the flowprobe platform for MS sample introduction. It is based on a continuous flow, in situ microextraction technique and is amenable to spot sampling and imaging a range of surfaces.

Biocrates Life Sciences released a version of its Absolute?IDQ p150 metabolomics-based research kit for use with Thermo Fisher Scientific’s TSQ Vantage Triple Stage Quadrupole MS.
