Life Technologies Expands Offerings for Molecular Diagnostic Labs
Molecular diagnostics is a focus market for Life Technologies, which has capitalized on the adoption of research techniques, such as microarrays, PCR and magnetic beads, by molecular diagnostic labs. AcroMetrix has facilities in Benicia, California, and Alkmaar, The Netherlands, and has approximately 50 employees.
Carlsbad, CA 1/12/10—Life Technologies has agreed to acquire AcroMetrix for an undisclosed amount. AcroMetrix provides molecular and serological diagnostic quality control products to clinical laboratories, blood screening centers and in vitro diagnostic manufacturers. “With the growth of DNA and other molecular based tests, there is a growing need for high quality, independently provided controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of laboratory test results,” commented Gregory T. Lucier, chairman and CEO of Life Technologies. Currently, Life Technologies’ portfolio of molecular diagnostics products totals more than $300 million in revenues. The transaction is not expected to have a material effect on Life Technologies’ 2010 financial results.
