Harvard Bioscience Expands Animal-Testing Business

Harvard Bioscience President David Green told IBO that Coulbourn’s best known products are behavioral research products used in neuroscience research in academic and pharmaceutical labs. He said that Coulbourn compliments Harvard Bioscience’s Panlab business, which is strong in Europe, whereas Coulbourn is strong in the US. Coulbourn has 20 employees.

Holliston, MA 8/23/10—Harvard Bioscience has acquired substantially all the assets of Coulbourn Instruments for an undisclosed amount. Coulbourn Instruments manufactures behavioral measurement products, with an emphasis on systems for assessing learning and memory utilized in research labs. “The acquisition of Coulbourn provides us another well established brand in our portfolio of products and enables us to provide our customers a broader range of tools, expanded technical support and a strong direct sales team in the behavior research market,” said Chane Graziano, CEO of Harvard Bioscience. The acquisition is expected to be immediately accretive to earnings and to add $4 million in annual revenue.
