Company Announcements

MTS Systems announced in July an agreement with the US Attorney’s General Office for the District of Minnesota settling for $7.75 million the Department of Justice’s potential claims against the company for its past disclosures on its government certifications and representations (see IBO 8/15/11).

MTS Systems’ Test revenue for the fiscal year ending September 29 grew 21.5% to $442.0 million, offset 1.4% by currency (see page 12). The company set a goal of $1 billion in revenue in fiscal 2018, with the priorities of innovation, emerging markets and service opportunities.

In September, Spectro Inc. gained rights to a suite of Emerson Process Management’s intellectual property in the field of oil analysis for predictive machine maintenance. Effective October 1, Spectro became the exclusive supplier of Emerson’s CSI 5200 Machinery Health Oil Analyzer product and services.

DKSH China agreed in October to provide market expansion services for Freeman Technology’s FT4 Power Rheometer in China, expanding their present agreement.

In October, Malvern Instruments signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Affinity Biosensors for outside the US and Canada.

SciPro announced that it will distribute Avid Nano’s DLS products in the US and Canada.

Product Introductions

MTS Systems launched the MTS Acumen Electrodynamic Test Systems for dynamic and static testing. It uses energy efficient actuation.

MTS Systems introduced the Criterion C45.305 electromechanical universal testing system, which is able to test up to 300 kN.

MOHR Test and Measurement introduced the portable MDT-2 Computerized Penetrometer and Texture Analyzer for measuring the quality of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Media Cybernetics released in August new Particle Counting and Analysis Applications for its Image-Pro Premier software for industrial image analysis researchers.

Shimadzu introduced the HMV-G Series Micro Vickers Hardness Testers, featuring an automated indentation reading function using a built-in CCD camera.

In September, Malvern Instruments, a Spectris firm, launched the Zetasizer Nano ZSP for zeta potential measurements, which features new software for protein mobility measurements and micro-rheology measurements.

Malvern Instruments released in October the Morphologi G3-ID particle characterization system, which combines particle imaging with the chemical identification of individual particles using Raman spectroscopy.

Thermo Fisher Scientific released the Thermo Scientific Rheonaut module, which enables its HAAKE MARS III rheometer to be coupled with its Nicolet iS10 or iS 50 FT-IR spectrometers.
