Thermo Names New CEO
Mr. Casper’s history with Thermo and his role as COO well prepare him for his new position. Mr. Casper joined Thermo in 2001 as president of Life Science (see IBO 12/15/01). Following the merger of Thermo and Fisher Scientific, he was named president of Analytical Technologies (see IBO 12/15/06) and COO last year (see IBO 7/31/08).
Waltham, MA 9/15/09—Thermo Fisher Scientific has appointed Chief Operating Officer Marc N. Casper president, CEO and director, effective October 15. He replaces Marijn E. Dekkers, Thermo’s president and CEO since 2002 (see IBO 11/30/02), who will resign to become CEO of Bayer AG, starting October 1, 2010. “Marc’s strong leadership at Thermo Fisher over the past eight years and his achievements both here and in other companies make him the natural choice to lead the company going forward,” stated Jim Manzi, chairman of the Board. Thermo reaffirmed its 2009 outlook of annual revenues of $9.8–10.1 billion and adjusted EPS of $2.85–$3.10.
