Analytik Jena closed AJ USA in April.
Xylem’s second-quarter sales for the Test portion of its Water Infrastructure division grew 58%, including $32 million in YSI sales. First-quarter sales declined 2%, excluding YSI, which had double-digit growth.
The UK announced in August the establishment of the Medical Research Council–National Institute for Health Research Phenome Center, which builds upon the expertise of the London 2012 Olympics anti-doping facility. The Center will investigate the phenome patterns of patients on an unprecedented scale. It will be led by a collaboration of academic partners as well as Bruker and Waters.
LECO announced in August a partnership between the LECO European Life Sciences and Chemical Analysis Center and the Joint Mass Spectrometry Centre, a cooperative partnership between the University of Rostock and the Helmholtz Zentrum München–German Research Center for Environmental Health.
In August, Pall named H. Alex Kim senior vice president, Business Development and Strategic Planning, a newly created position. He was most recently vice president of Business Development for Danaher’s Water Quality Group.
Roche named Roland Diggelmann, head of the Asia-Pacific region within Roche Diagnostics, to succeed Daniel O’Day as COO of Roche Diagnostics. Mr. O’Day was named COO of Roche Pharma, effective September 1.
Merck KGaA announced in September an efficiency plan for the company’s German operations, affecting 1,100 of the 10,900 position in Germany by the end of 2015. The plan will affect all businesses, and several support functions across the divisions will be reorganized.
In September, Agilent opened a new Customer Applications and Training Center in Seoul, South Korea, showcasing its bio-analytical instruments. The company’s goal is to collaborate with customers for research in the agriculture, environment and semiconductor industries. It features a Class1000-certified clean room.
PerkinElmer officially opened in September its new Greater China headquarters in Shanghai, which houses a Customer Knowledge Center, Global Software R&D Team and Global Application Development Center. The firm’s new diagnostics R&D and manufacturing facility in Taicang also officially began production in September.
Oxford Instruments announced in September the retirement from its Board of Bernard Taylor.

Defense.gov reported in September that Life Technologies was awarded a $45 million firm fixed-price contract to supply reagents and consumables to the DNA Identification Laboratory at the Armed Forces Medical Examiners System in Dover Air Force Base, Delaware. Work is to be performed in Carlsbad, California, and is estimated to be completed by August 2017.
