Thermo Buys MS Sample Prep Firm
Last year, Thermo formed an alliance with Intrinsic Bioprobes to develop a quantitative high-throughput MS workflow for protein biomarker assays and to become the exclusive reseller of the MSIA technology. Used with a pipette tip, MSIA is based on an antibody affinity capture technique.
Rochester, NY 9/1/11—Thermo Fisher Scientific has acquired Intrinsic Bioprobes, a manufacturer of immunoenrichment tools for sample preparation for use in quantitative MS. The company’s Mass Spectrometric Immunoassay (MSIA) technology is designed for the enrichment of low-abundance proteins in biological samples. “The Intrinsic Bioprobes portfolio will enhance Thermo Fisher’s position in the rapidly emerging field of clinical proteomics,” stated Chuck Kummeth, president of Thermo Fisher’s Laboratory Consumables business. Randall W. Nelson, Intrinsic Bioprobes’ founder and president, will serve as a consultant to the business.
