FEI Acquires Fluorescence Microscopy Company
The acquisition is in line with FEI’s investments to expand the use of electron microscopy with light microscopy for cellular analysis (see page 10). The acquisition is FEI’s first of a light microscopy company and will give it microscopy product lines dedicated to live-cell biology applications.
Hillsboro, OR 11/14/11—Electron microscopy company FEI has acquired TILL Photonics, a supplier of high-resolution, digital light microscopes and high-speed imaging systems for live-cell fluorescence microscopy, for €14.5 million ($19.9 million = €0.73 = $1) plus an earn out payable in two years based on milestones. In 2011, TILL is expected to have revenues of $8 million. “With this acquisition, FEI acquires additional key technology for correlative microscopy for cellular biology, which integrates high-performance light and electron microscopy,” said FEI President and CEO Don Kania. “Now we can accelerate the growth of our Life Sciences business, which is an important component of our company-wide plan to double our served available market in the next three years.” Based in Munich, Germany, TILL Photonics has 40 employees.
