Security Firm to Buy Syagen
Asked about its plans to Syagen’s APPI OEM business, a Morpho Detection spokesperson told IBO, “The revenue from these sales was an important consideration in the acquisition decision making, but the overarching value of the Syagen acquisition is in the potential for MS to address our customers’ needs to detect emerging threats.” All of Syagen’s 17 employees will join Morpho Detection.
Newark, CA 4/19/11—Security solutions provider Morpho Detection has agreed to acquire Syagen Technology, a provider of MS technology for security applications and the developer of the PhotoMate line of atmospheric pressure photoionization ionization (APPI) MS sources. Financial details were not disclosed. “Syagen’s unique mass spectrometry technology combined with Morpho Detection’s patented Ion Trap Mobility Spectrometry trace detection will help deliver the solutions customers need for detecting emerging, nonconventional explosives threats,” stated Morpho Detection President and CEO Dennis Cooke. Syagen is expected to operate as an MS technical center of excellence. Morpho Detection is a part of the Defense division of French aerospace and defense firm Safran.
