Illumina Board member Jack Goldstein will not stand for re-election in May.
Thermo Fisher Scientific completed a 35,000-square-foot addition to its Pierce facility in Rockford, Illinois.
In February, Thermo Fisher Scientific opened an additional facility in Cheshire, UK, adding 60 new jobs. The facility serves as a Center of Excellence for its Anatomical Pathology business and a manufacturing facility for its Chromatography Consumables business.
Dionex promoted Bruce Barton to executive vice president, Global Sales and Service, and chief commercial officer in January. He had served as senior vice president, Global Sales and Service, since August 2008.
Richard F. Walsh, PerkinElmer senior vice president and chief administrative officer, retired in March.
In February, PerkinElmer inaugurated a Health Sciences lab in Chennai, India, for fetal, maternal and neonatal health screening, and announced a collaboration with MediScan Systems, a referral center for fetal medicine.
Roche Diagnostics Applied Science reported 2009 revenue increased 12% (15% in local currency) to CHF 870 million ($798 million) to make up 9% of division sales. Sales of MagNA Pure and LightCycler products increased 35% to CHF 141 million ($129 million), driven by influenza testing. Sales of 454 Genome Sequencers were flat at CHF 139 million ($128 million), but sales of sequencing reagents increased 26%. Microarray sales rose 44%.
Symyx Technology’s 2009 sales declined 5.4% to $150.4 million. Service and Product revenues fell 5.8% and 4.6% to 47% and 16% of revenues, respectively (see page 12). Symyx Software and Symyx HPR sales fell 5.9% and 4.6% to 59% and 41% of revenues. License fees, content and royalties revenue fell 5.3%. ExxonMobil and Dow together accounted for 26% of revenues. Operating loss fell from $116.9 million to $4.0 million.
In February, ServiceSource, a provider of technology-based solutions to increase service revenue, announced a partnership with GE Healthcare Life Sciences.
Joel McComb, senior vice president and general manager of Illumina Life Sciences, resigned in February and joined Synthetic Genomics as COO.
Adrian T. Dillon, Agilent executive vice president, Finance and Administration, and CFO, resigned April 1.
Danaher reported low single-digit declines in 2009 for sales of its water quality businesses’ lab and process instrument products, but low double-digit growth for them in China. Annual sales for the company’s life sciences instrumentation business declined.
Hitachi High-Technology’s Biotechnology-related sales for the third quarter ended December 31, 2009 rose 36.1% to ¥49,000 million ($54.6 million).
Bioanalytical Systems President and CEO Richard M. Shepperd retired in February. Anthony S. Chilton, PhD, COO of Scientific Services, was named interim president.
