TESCAN USA announced a partnership with the Colorado School of Mines to create an electron beam analytical facility on the Golden, Colorado, campus.

In September, TESCAN, the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station and Texas A&M University announced a nanotechnology collaboration agreement.

ZEISS opened its new China headquarters building in the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone. It includes the company’s Shanghai Innovation Center.

In October, Park Systems announced that JEOL will distribute its AFM products in Japan.

Harvard University’s Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering launched Ultivue that will produce low-cost imaging reagents based on DNA-PAINT and Exchange-PAINT technologies to provide super-resolution capabilities on standard single-molecule microscopes. Ultivue completed a $5.2 million Series A financing.

European Molecular Biology Laboratory start-up, Luxendo, a manufacturer and seller of advanced single plane illumination microscopes, closed a €6 million ($7 million) Series A financing in October.

Olympus launched a US-based R&D organization dedicated to microscope customization and modification for special research needs.

Product Introductions

JEOL introduced in August the JCM-6000Plus NeoScope benchtop SEM, featuring improved image quality of backscattered electron images. The annual unit sales target is 200 per year in the initial year.

In September, JEOL released the new JSM-7200F FE SEM with a spatial resolution of 1.6 nm at 1.0 kV and high probe current of 300 nA.

Bruker launched in August the Opterra II Multipoint Scanning Confocal Microscope for live-cell studies, featuring the ability to tailor speed, resolution, and intensity to provide low photo-toxicity and photo-bleaching.

In August, Oxford Instruments launched the X-Max Extreme SDD, which enables EDS data collection at 1–3 kV.

Oxford Instruments released the next generation AZtecGSR for gunshot residue analysis using an SEM, featuring improved productivity.

Oxford Instruments Asylum Research launched the Cypher ES Polymer edition AFM, which includes three exclusive nanomechanical characterization techniques.

Leica Microsystems launched the Leica EM ICE high-pressure freezer for preserving aqueous samples in their close-to-native states at nanometer resolution. It features a light stimulation option at the precision of a millisecond.

In September, Olympus Europe introduced the new cellFRAP deck system, enabling the easy addition of photomanipulation techniques to imaging platforms.
