Spectris Buys NanoSight

According to Spectris, the largest application area for NanoSight’s technology is life sciences, particularly for the study of exosomes, which are intercellular messengers (see IBO 4/30/13). NanoSight has an installed base of more than 600 systems, according to the company.

Engham, UK 9/30/13; Amesbury, UK 9/30/13; Malvern, UK 9/30/13—Spectris’s Malvern Instruments business, which provides instrumentation for materials and biophysical characterization, has acquired NanoSight for £15 million ($24 million = £0.62 = $1) net of debt and cash acquired. NanoSight’s Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis technology enables the simultaneous multi-parameter analysis and characterization of different types of nanoscale particles. The firm has around 50 employees and recorded 2012 revenues of £5.7 million (£9.0 million = 0.63 = $1). ”We believe that our Life Science and Industrial customers will benefit greatly from the availability of this additional product range from Malvern,” stated Jim Webster, Spectris’s Business Group director. NanoSight will continue to operate from its facilities in Amesbury, UK, under existing management.
