Company Announcements

Under a strategic partnership announced in May, Mettler-Toledo will bundle its density, refractive index and pH instruments with Konica Minolta Sensing’s CM-5 or CR-5 spectrophotometers to provide a system for quality monitoring in the flavors and fragrances industry.

In July, Tornado Medical Systems and Arjae Spectral Enterprises announced a plan to merge the companies to create Tornado Spectral Systems. Arjae Spectral Enterprises’ products incorporated Tornado Medical Systems’ High-Throughput Virtual Slit technology, enabling higher resolution with virtually no throughput loss.

In August, Block Engineering added new sales partners: SKAE Associates, which is the exclusive New England representation for Quantum Cascade Laser–based products, and Pembroke Instruments, which is the firm’s exclusive California representative.

Product Introductions

BioTools introduced the portable m-BioRAMAN microscope, which can obtain co-focused Raman and visual microscopic images of solids.

Thermo Fisher Scientific introduced in May the Thermo Scientific Nicolet iS50 FT-IR spectrometer, featuring one-touch operation, the ability to be upgraded to a fully automated multispectral range system, an integrated diamond attenuated total reflectance accessory, and dual-purpose fiber-optic and integrating sphere module.

Jenway launched the Genova Nano, a three-in-one life science, standard and micro-volume spectrophotometer.

P&P Optica released the non-scanning PPO HyperChannel Spectrometer, which can simultaneously monitor over 200 separate channels registered, with each channel able to resolve up to one thousand spectral points.

In June, Hach launched the DR 6000 UV-Visible spectrophotometer, featuring RFID technology, integrated quality analysis software and 250 pre-programmed methods.

Eppendorf introduced in June the Biospectrometer, with a spectral range of 200–830 nm. It is available in two versions: basic and kinetic, which features a temperature-controlled cuvette holder.

PAC introduced in July the next-generation portable PetroSpec QuickSpec analyzer, with an expanded analysis range of ethanol 0.1–100.0 vol%.

In July, FOSS NIRSystems introduced the NIRS DS2500 analyzer, with a spectral range of 400–2500 nm, which is designed for use in the receiving area, lab or at-line.

Smiths Detection introduced the field-portable HazMat ID Elite FT-IR system for the identification of solid and liquid chemical threats. The next-generation system is 10 times smaller and four times lighter than the original.

HORIBA Scientific launched the LabRAM HR Evolution Raman spectrometer, featuring a wavelength range capability of 200–2000 nm. It also offers advanced confocal imaging capabilities in 2D and 3D.
