Bruker AXS signed a strategic partnership with Zethus Software, a cloud-storage technology firm, for the implementation and distribution of the Zethus Cumulus CyberLab technology with its X-ray instruments.

Molecular Dimensions, a provider of products for protein-structure determination using X-ray crystallography, was bought out by CEO Tony Savill in April. Molecular Dimensions was an associated company of Stratech Scientific.

The Australian reported in April that Australia’s defense minister, John Faulkner, blocked the 2009 shipment of two atomic absorption spectrometers from GBC Scientific to Pakistan-based Capital Engineering Services, citing Australia’s Weapons of Mass Destruction (Prevention of Proliferation) Act. GBC stated that the shipment could not be used for the creation of weapons.

Innov-X Systems and Steinert entered into an OEM agreement in April to market a high-speed XRF-based sorting system to identify and remove copper-containing materials from ferrous scrap. Steinert will manufacture the system and provide sales and marketing.

Thermo Fisher Scientific announced a collaboration with the BrainMet (Bioimaging of Metals in Brain and Metallomics) Center at Forschungszentrum, Jülich, Germany, to advance dementia research using the Thermo Scientific X Series 2 ICP-MS.

Product Introductions

SPECTRO Analytical Instruments introduced the SPECTRO ARCOS (advanced Rowland circle optical system) Edition Model ICP–OES, featuring new optics with a focal length of 750 mm and a new generator.

SPECTRO Analytical Instruments released the new SPECTROX XEPOS ED-XRF, which is now equipped with a silicon-drift detector and updated software.

Cianflone Scientific Instruments introduced the Portaspec WD-XRF analyzer.

Rigaku introduced the benchtop Micro-Z WD-XRF for low-level sulfur analysis, which requires only 110 V power to operate.

Rigaku Americas released the self-contained ScreenMachine single-crystal X-ray diffractometer for cyro-condition and synchrotron-utilization optimization.

SII Nanotechnology launched the XRF Coating Thickness Gauge SFT-110 with the Auto-positioning Function for enhanced throughput at a 20% price reduction.

Thermo Fisher Scientific introduced the ARL 9900 IntelliPower 600 X-ray spectrometer for cement analysis at 600 W. It can be configured with XRF fixed channels.

Sales/Orders of Note

In June, Analytik Jena AG announced an order for 20 total organic carbon analyzers from the Polish Inspectorate of Environmental Protection.
