ZEISS to Further Restructure Microscopy Business
Last year, ZEISS Microscopy announced a reduction in costs involving the loss of 300 jobs (see IBO 11/30/14). Microscopy revenue grew 3%, excluding currency and acquisitions, to $404 million for the first half of fiscal 2015 ending March 31 (see IBO 6/15/15).
Oberkochen, Germany 9/25/15—ZEISS Microscopy has announced a restructuring plan that includes development, production, sales and marketing. One hundred thirty jobs will be eliminated and 150 relocated. Changes will also be made at all Microscopy sites. All activities at the business’s Göttingen site except production will be transferred. Production at the site, consisting of 240 employees, will be assigned to ZEISS’s Shared Production Unit. About 50 international jobs are also expected to be affected. “We have already taken some important steps with our program aimed at increasing our competitiveness. However, we have not yet reached our required growth and profitability targets,” stated Justus Felix Wehmer, cohead of the Microscopy business group.
