PerkinElmer Builds Diagnostics Business Overseas
PerkinElmer plans to relocate the manufacturing of some analytical and research products to the acquired Chinese facility. SYM-BIO specializes in Time-Resolved Fluorometry instruments and diagnostic reagents for clinical and research applications.
Waltham, MA and Shanghai, China 9/8/09; Chennai, India 9/8/09—PerkinElmer has acquired companies in India and China to expand its diagnostics business. PerkinElmer acquired SYM-BIO Lifescience, a Chinese provider of diagnostics instruments and related reagents, which specializes in the area of infectious diseases, for $63.7 million in cash. The acquisition doubles PerkinElmer’s access to hospitals in China and provides a base to expand its prenatal and newborn screening business, according to the company. PerkinElmer stated that the acquisition also provides a substantial gain in manufacturing plant capacity in Shanghai for the expansion of local production. The acquisition is expected to have no material impact on adjusted EPS for 2009 and to be slightly accretive in 2010. PerkinElmer has also acquired the genetic screening business of Surendra Genetic Labs. Based in Chennai, India, Surendra is a provider of testing services for pregnant mothers and newborns.
