VWR Purchases Chemical Firm
Founded in 1998 and based in Connecticut, PTI suppliers acetonitrile, which is used as a mobile-phase solvent for HPLC, and methanol. In 2009, an acetonitrile shortage led to price increases and rationing (see IBO 4/15/09).
Radnor, PA 10/7/15—Lab product, service and solutions provider VWR has acquired Purification Technologies (PTI) for an undisclosed amount. PTI is a specialty solvent company focused on high-volume purification of selected high-purity solvents. “Our customers in the chromatography, biochemical and agrochemical industries will benefit through VWR’s ability to supply high-purity acetonitrile and other solvents in both bulk and lab-scale quantities,” commented VWR President and CEO Manuel Brocke-Benz. VWR also stated that the purchase will add to its lab and production chemical manufacturing portfolio.
