Millipore Adds to Cell Analysis Instrument Offerings
Amnis stated that it has had a compound annual growth rate of over 80% since 2005. The company makes the ImageStreamX and FlowSight imaging flow cytometers, which image cells at a high speed directly in bodily fluids and can perform phenotypic and functional studies at the same time. Merck Millipore also offers the Guava flow cytometer product line, which it acquired in 2009 (see IBO 2/15/09).
Darmstadt, Germany 8/30/11; Seattle, Washington 8/30/11—Merck Millipore has agreed to acquire Amnis, a designer, manufacturer and seller of high-speed cell-imaging instrumentation. Financial terms were not provided. Amnis had 2010 sales of $14 million. The company has 40 employees. “Amnis’ technology will put EMD Millipore at the forefront of cell analysis by providing us access to break-through, combined imaging flow cytometry, addressing several unmet needs in the field of cell analysis and systems biology,” commented Jonathan DiVincenzo, head of the Bioscience business unit within EMD Millipore. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter.
