As part of Canada’s fiscal 2014 (FY14) budget, the government will fund research partnerships between academia and industry with CAD 37 million ($37 million) in both fiscal FY14 and FY15. The amount includes CAD 15 million each year for the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research’s Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research. Genome Canada will receive CAD 165 million in FY15 to fund research competitions and maintain its operations and those of its Genome Centers and Science and Technology Innovation Centers. The Canada Foundation for Innovation will receive CAD 225 million in unallocated interest income for advanced research infrastructure and to maintain operations. The National Research Council will receive CAD 61 million in FY14 and CAD 60 million in FY15 to support innovative business growth. The National Research Council’s new Industrial Research Assistance Program will dedicate CAD 20 million over three years to provide research and business development services for small and medium-size enterprises. Sustainable Development Technology Canada will be designated CAD 1 million in FY14 and CAD 12 million in FY15.
