Cell Biosciences Buys Sample Prep Firm

Cell Biosciences appears to be rapidly building its product line. The company offers the CB1000 nanofluidic immunoassay system for protein detection and, earlier this year, acquired Alpha Innotech for $17.9 million in cash (see IBO 9/15/09).

Santa Clara, CA 12/7/09—Cell Biosciences, a provider of protein analysis technology, has acquired Protein Forest, the maker of the ProteomeChip product line for protein fractionation, for an undisclosed amount in an all-stock transaction. In connection with the purchase, Cell Biosciences raised $4 million in equity financing, led by Novo A/S. “The digital ProteomeChip product line fits perfectly with our strategic plan and will be leveraged immediately by our global distribution organization,” stated Tim Harkness, president and CEO of Cell Biosciences. Cell Biosciences has approximately 100 employees and an installed base of more than 10,000 systems.
