The Higher Education Funding Council for England, the main source of research funding for UK universities, announced that grant funding for the 2014 academic year totals £4,472 million ($6.8 million) for 129 universities and colleges. For recurrent grants, the funding consists of £2,325 million for teaching, £1,558 million for research and £160 million for knowledge exchange. Cash funds for such research grants remains the same as last year. Non-recurrent grants includes £280 million in capital grants, such as £120 million for the UK Research Partnership Investment Fund. Also available is £149 million in special funding.
