Provider of Forensics Confocal Microscopy–Based Systems Acquired
The acquisition is subject to $6 million in additional payments based on earnings growth over the next two years. Forensic Technology’s IBIS (Integrated Ballistic Identification System) TRAX-HD3D system includes the BULLETTRAX confocal microscopy system for 2-D and 3-D imaging of bullets. IBIS technology is used by the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ National Integrated Ballistics Information Network.
Greenford, UK 4/28/14; Greenford, UK 5/14/14—Ultra Electronics, a defense, security, transport and energy company, has acquired Forensic Technology WAI for an initial cash consideration of CAD $94 million ($85 million = CAD 1.10 = $1). Headquartered in Montreal, Canada, with 253 employees, Forensic Technology provides automated firearm-ballistics identification and forensics-analysis systems to law enforcement agencies. The company generated a 2013 profit before tax of CAD 8.9 million ($8.6 million = CAD 1.03 = $1). Forensic Technology joins Ultra’s Tactical & Sonar Systems Division. “I am pleased with the acquisition of Forensic Technology. It has established a strong position in the international market place, and its technologies and capabilities complement Ultra’s broader law enforcement, security and data analytic offerings. This provides an important step in building our portfolio in the security sector,” said Ultra Chief Executive Rakesh Sharma. Ultra will retain the company’s core-management team. The acquisition is expected to be fully accretive during 2015.
