Bruker Adds to Materials Characterization Offerings

CETR will remain at its current location in Silicon Valley. However, its operations will be integrated with Bruker NanoSurfaces. CETR product lines include the UMT universal testing platform and the Apex indentation and scratch tester.

Billerica, MA 9/12/11—Bruker has signed a purchase agreement to acquire Center for Tribology (CETR) for an undisclosed amount. CETR offers nano-mechanical and tribological test instrumentation, serving both basic materials research and industrial manufacturing. Based in Campbell, California, the company is projected to have 2011 revenues of more than $10 million of EBITDA of greater than $2 million. “We are delighted to add their synergistic core competencies to our own AFM and optical metrology expertise,” stated Mark R. Munch, PhD, president of Bruker Nano Surfaces. “CETR customers are interested in mechanically testing the structure property relationships as they relate to tribology and nano-mechanical properties just as Bruker Nano Surfaces division’s current customers want to use microscopy and metrology to measure topography, and other surface properties.” CETR is expected to become a separate Tribology and Indenting business within Bruker Nano Surfaces, joining the current AFM (atomic force microscope) and SOM (stylus and optical metrology) businesses.
