In June, Bruker appointed Charles F. Wagner Jr. executive vice president and CFO. He has served on the Board since 2010 and was previously CFO of Millipore. Former CFO William J. Knight remains as executive vice president, president of Bruker Detection and US general manager of Bruker Detection.
Bruker opened a new applications and customer support Center of Excellence in Moscow, Russia, in June.
Olympus announced in June a five-year “medium-term vision” that designates its Life Science & Industrial business as one of its core business domains. Changes will include an expanded product portfolio and new customer segments. The Life Science business will reduce manufacturing, sales, general and administrative costs.
Thermo Fisher Scientific opened a 156,000-square-foot Center for Excellence for portable analytical instruments in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, in June. The firm’s Tewksbury location employs 400, and the Center will add 100 jobs over five years.
Xylem opened a new office in Hanoi, Vietnam, in June. The company will continue to sell through its distribution partners in the country.
Xylem opened a new sales and service office in Panama in June.
Halma’s fiscal first-half Health and Analysis sales for the period ending March 31 increased 16.2% to £253.6 million ($396.3 million) (see IBO 6/30/12) to make up 44% of company sales. Health Optics/Other, Water, Fluid Technology and Photonics sales increased 33%, 14%, 12% and 8% to account for 28%, 23%, 18% and 31% of segment sales, respectively.
In June, Life Technologies established a Global Instrument Center of Excellence in Singapore, which will design and manufacture next-generation sequencers, molecular diagnostic instruments and other products for the region and outside Asia Pacific. It is the company’s only internal instrument-manufacturing facility outside the US.
Following the closing of its acquisition of Dako (see IBO 5/31/12) in June, Agilent formed a fourth business reporting segment, the Diagnostics and Genomics Group. It consists of Dako, led by Lars Holmkvist, former CEO and president of Dako, and the Genomics Solutions Division, led by Bob Schueren, vice president and general manager of Agilent’s genomics group.
EMD Millipore appointed Vince Donovan head of BioPharmaceutical Process Solutions, effective July 1.
Dynasil CEO and President Steven K. Ruggieri resigned July 6. Chairman Peter Sulick is serving as interim CEO and president.
Product Introductions
In June, EMD Millipore launched the Provantage Solutions portfolio of process development, manufacturing-consulting and implementation services for drug manufacturers.
