Egypt
Last month, Egypt announced plans to develop a network of research centers and universities that will complement its upcoming $2 billion science city, which was announced this past May. The Zewail City of Science and Technology network will be connected with research centers that are part of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and other ministries. Nobel laureate Ahmed Zewail, for whom the City is named, said that the connections will promote research across Egypt. The Academy of Scientific Research and Technology houses scientists that will have a positive impact on the City, said ARST president Maged Al-Sherbiny. Particulars of the network are still being arranged, but its first members will be the National Research Center, Cairo University’s Nanotechnology Research Center, and Mansoura University’s Urology and Nephrology Center. The City will become operational in September.
