Abcam Acquires Biochemical Reagent Company

The acquisition adds biochemical reagents to Abcam’s product line. Based in Bristol, UK, Ascent has 23 employees and offers more than 400 bioactive small molecules, produced in house and via outsourcing.

London, UK 9/13/11—Abcam, a provider of protein research tools, has agreed to acquire Ascent Scientific for £10 million ($16 million = £0.63 = $1) in cash and £4 million ($6 million) in shares priced at 345.58 pence ($5.48) per share. Ascent is a provider of biochemicals for life science research. For the year ending July 31, sales totaled £1.4 million ($2.2 million).
