Affymetrix Buys Services Firm
The acquisition expands Affymetrix’s growing agriculture business and positions it for greater participation in the NGS market. Eureka’s genotyping solution is based on proprietary bioinformatics software and is NGS platform agnostic, according to its website. The company is also developing molecular diagnostics applications.
Santa Clara, CA 5/14/15—Affymetrix has acquired substantially all of the assets of Eureka Genomics for $15 million in cash. Eureka develops low- to mid-plex, high-throughput genotyping assays for NGS for use in detecting genetic markers for routine crop and animal agrigenomics testing. Affymetrix will launch the Eureka Genotyping Solution and Services for routine animal and plant testing through an early access program. “Our array-based Axiom genotyping platform has achieved great commercial success in agrigenomics markets,” stated Affymetrix President and CEO Frank Witney. “An emerging segment of our customers have been asking for a cost effective solution with focused genetic variant panels for very high-volume routine testing in animal and plant applications, such as parentage, traceability or trait management.”
