Agilent Acquires SFC Assets

SFC is a burgeoning technique. Now, Agilent can give Aurora SFC the necessary resources to develop the technology even further. It also puts them in an overall stronger position in the SFC market by offering a single-vendor solution. Aurora is the defendant in an SFC patent infringement suit brought by Waters (see IBO 10/31/11).

Santa Clara, CA 8/27/12—Agilent Technologies has acquired the assets of Aurora SFC Systems, a provider of products for supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC), for an undisclosed amount. For the past two years, Agilent has sold the company’s technology as part of its SFC and Hybrid SFC/UHPLC systems and as an upgrade option to selected HPLC systems. Agilent stated that the acquisition allows it to now offer these products as fully integrated, single-vendor solutions. “The deployment of orthogonal separation techniques has gained significant importance in liquid phase separations as regulatory agencies increasingly demand comprehensive results,” stated Patrick Kaltenbach, vice president and general manager of Agilent’s Liquid Phase Separations Business.
