Agilent Expands Materials Sciences Business with Two Acquisitions
Agilent’s pursuit of new markets has now taken it into the material characterization segment, building upon the atomic force microscopy business it acquired three years ago (see IBO 11/30/05). As Aglient described at its Pittcon press conference, materials characterization techniques are sold to the same industries that purchase other Agilent products, such as the chemicals and pharmaceutical industries and academia. At Pittcon, Agilent introduced its first two particle characterization instruments, which are based on Collodial Dynamics’ products.
New Orleans, LA 3/3/08—Agilent Technologies’ Life Science and Chemical Analysis business (also known as Bio-analytical Measurement) has announced two acquisitions to grow its Materials Science Solutions Unit, which was formed last year (see IBO 04/15/07). Agilent has agreed to acquire TILL Photonics GmbH, a provider of fluorescence microscopy products. The acquisition is expected to close at the end of March. Agilent has also acquired Collodial Dynamics, a supplier of products for the measurement of particle size, zeta potential and pore size distribution. “When final, the TILL Photonics acquisition will position Agilent as a premier provider of advanced optical and fluorescence microscopy systems,” stated Mike Gasparian, vice president and general manager of Agilent’s Materials Science Solutions Unit. “Colloidal Dynamics launches our particle measurement portfolio, allowing us to offer customers unmatched zeta potential and particle size measurement tools.”
