Agilent Launches New NMR
In November 2013, Agilent Technologies launched the ProPulse 500 and 600 MHz NMR platforms for routine liquid applications. The ProPulse includes a completely new mid-field NMR console. This console introduction follows the 2011 release of the DD2 console (see IBO 5/15/11). “The ProPulse NMR System is our new mid-range NMR system, perfect for routine small liquid NMR applications, while the DD2 offers a broader range of flexibility and configuration options that enable it to cover liquids as well as high-power solids applications,” said Jeff McMillan, NMR Console and Automation product manager at Agilent. “ProPulse combines the ease of use of our 400-MR system with the performance of our DD2 system to provide mid-field NMR customers a system that is both easy to use and powerful.”
The ProPulse console includes new technology, according to Mr. McMillan. “Technological updates within the ProPulse console electronics improve the performance, particularly in the area of the frequency synthesizer and the preamp circuitry.” Improvements also extend to the exterior. “The ProPulse console has a smaller footprint and is much easier to site than other consoles,” he explained. External changes also include fewer system connections, the ability to use standard lab line voltages and a remote status tablet.
The ProPulse platform also includes version 4.01 of Agilent’s VnmrJ software. New to this version is the VeriPulse feature, which automates system optimization and maintenance. “This means that users don’t have to be a highly skilled spectroscopist in order to validate the system’s performance,” said Mr. McMillan.
