Agilent Sells Software Business
The acquisition will add 30 “domain experts” to Persistent’s workforce, according to The Hindu Business Line. Agilent’s website noted that the divestment includes Varian’s Galaxie chromatography software. Agilent will continue to provide primary support for the product, but new purchases will be made through Persistent. This month, Persistent announced an agreement with Life Technologies to develop sequencing and fragment-analysis software for FDA-approved capillary electrophoresis systems.
Pune, India 5/31/11—Persistent Systems, an India-based provider of outsourced software product development, has agreed to acquire Agilent’s software and marketing and development business based in Grenoble, France. The business is focused on supplying data acquisition and control software for instruments in life science, environmental, energy, applied research and other markets. “Agilent and Persistent have had a strong business relationship for more than 10 years,” commented Bruce von Herrmann, vice president and general manager of Agilent Life Sciences’ Software and Informatics Business. “As Persistent becomes a global player in Life Sciences, incorporating the Grenoble team will provide Persistent with a presence in Europe, while their growth plans will provide new entrepreneurial opportunities for this talented team.” Persistent plans to establish a Life Sciences Center of Excellence in Grenoble. The acquisition is expected to close by August 1.
