Agilent to Buy Clinical Genomics Software Firm

Cartagenia’s products are FDA registered as exempt Clinical I Medical Devices. Last year, Agilent agreed to distribute Cartagenia’s software to cytogenetics labs for CNV analysis (see IBO 9/15/14). The software is used with Agilent’s cytogenetic microarrays.

Santa Clara, CA and Boston, MA 5/4/15—Agilent Technologies has agreed to acquire Cartagenia, a provider of software and services for clinical genetics and molecular pathology labs. Financial terms were not disclosed.”Together, Agilent and Cartagenia can help remove bottlenecks inherent in analysis, interpretation and reporting clinical data, resulting in faster answers for patients,” stated Jacob Thaysen, president of Agilent’s Diagnostics and Genomics Group. Cartagenia supplies software geared to routine clinical labs for variant assessment and reporting of clinical genomics data from NGS and microarrays. Cartagenia’s 36 employees will join Agilent. The acquisition is expected to close May 19.
