Agilent to Sell Micro GC Business to INFICON

INFICON CFO Matthias Tröndle told IBO on March 25 that the acquisition is expected to close in the next four to six weeks. In its annual report, INFICON stated that, pending regulatory approval, the Agilent micro GC products will join the company’s Environmental Sensors product line and that it provides market opportunities in the field of gas analysis.

Bad Ragaz, Switzerland 1/29/10—INFICON has signed a definitive agreement to purchase Agilent’s micro GC business. The divestiture by Agilent is required by the EU as a condition for approval of Agilent’s acquisition of Varian (see IBO 1/31/10, 2/15/10). Earlier this month, Agilent agreed to sell three other product lines as part of the EU’s requirements (see IBO 3/15/10). INFICON stated that it will produce the product line at its facility in Shanghai, China, and that the acquisition will add 10–15 employees. “This acquisition complements our very successful HAPSITE GC/MS and chemical monitoring product lines and will help expand the company’s environmental sensors market base,” commented INFICON President and CEO Lukas Winkler.
