AMETEK Expands Materials Characterization Business

The acquisition marks AMETEK’s entry into the laboratory rheometer and viscometer market. Brookfield is a long-established supplier with a healthy market share. Brookfield’s instrumentation are primarily used for QC applications, according to AMETEK.

Berwyn, PA 2/5/16—AMETEK, a manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices, has acquired Brookfield Engineering for $167 million. Brookfield manufactures and sells viscometers and rheometers, and instrumentation for texture and powder-flow analysis. The company has annual sales of around $55 million. “Its products and technologies complement our existing laboratory instrumentation businesses and provide us with opportunities to expand that business platform into a broader range of markets and applications,” stated AMETEK Chairman and CEO Frank S. Hermance. Brookfield will join AMETEK Electronic Instruments Group’s Instrumentation and Specialty Controls division.
