AMETEK Names New CEO

During Mr. Hermance’s tenure, AMETEK built its analytical instrument businesses, targeting atomic spectroscopy, materials characterization and surface science techniques, including the acquisition of SPECTRO Analytical Instruments (see IBO 6/15/05), CAMECA (see IBO 8/15/07) and Brookfield Engineering (see IBO 2/15/16).

Berwyn, PA 5/4/16; Berwyn, PA 5/4/16—AMETEK announced that CEO Frank S. Hermance has transitioned to executive chairman and David A. Zapico has been elected CEO and to the Board, effective May 5. Most recently, Mr. Zapico served as executive vice president and COO. “I expect the transition of Dave to CEO to be seamless, as we have been preparing for this transition for many years,” stated Mr. Hermance, who was named CEO in 1999. Mr. Zapico has been with the company for 26 years, and was named executive vice president and COO in 2013 (see IBO 2/15/13). In connection with the transition, Ronald J. Oscher, president of AMETEK’s Electronic Instruments Group, has been named to the newly created position of chief administrative office, effective May 5.
