Andor Technology Acquires Photonic Instruments

Founded in 1996 and based in Illinois, Photonic Instruments provides digital illumination technology that enables the simultaneous photoactivation of multiple regions of a live cell for time-based studies. Its partners include major confocal microscopy suppliers.

Belfast, Northern Ireland 4/14/10; London, England 4/14/10—Andor Technology, a supplier of digital cameras, has acquired Photonic Instruments and Imaginative Optics for $5.0 million, the issue of 156,627 ordinary shares at 2p ($0.03) each and earn-out provisions. Photonic Instruments develops and manufactures laser and lamp-based illumination and ablation systems for confocal and widefield microscopy. In 2009, Photonic Instruments generated revenues of $3.0 million and an operating profit of $0.8 million.
