Asia Pacific

The “Nature Publishing Index 2011 Asia-Pacific” reveals that Japan leads the region in the number of scientific publications. The Index encompasses articles, letters and brief communications published in Nature and its 17 research journals in the 12-month period prior to the Index’s March release. There were 856 scientific publications attributed to Asia Pacific in that period. Some papers had authors spanning multiple countries and institutions. Japanese institutions contributed 361 scientific publications. Institutions in China, Australia, Korea and Singapore accounted for 225, 172, 92 and 53 publications, respectively. Four of the five institutions that produced the most publications were located in Japan: the University of Tokyo, RIKEN, Kyoto University and Osaka University, which accounted for 120, 78, 53 and 46 publications, respectively. Scientists at the Chinese Academy of Sciences contributed 65 publications.
