Company Announcements

CETAC Technologies, a provider of sample preparation products for elemental analysis, acquired CDS Analytical, a GC injection systems firm, in November 2010.

In December 2010, FLSmidth announced an offer to acquire ESSA, a provider of laboratory equipment for mining, for AUD 38.7 million ($38.4 million). As of January 17, FLSmidth had acquired 53.66% of ESSA shares.

Analytik Jena completed a full merger with its AJ IDC Geräteentwicklungsgesellschaft GmbH subsidiary, which had 42 employees, in December. IDC ceased to be a separate entity with retroactive effect to October 2010.

In January, PANalytical opened a new office with a demonstration lab near Houston, Texas.

Teledyne Tekmar announced that Summit Scientific is its new representative for the Rocky Mountain region.

PANalytical and FANUC announced in January an exclusive supply agreement for automated FANUC Robodrill milling machines for an automated lab environment in the metals industry.

Product Introductions

Analytik Jena introduced the new multi N/C family of analyzers for the automatic and simultaneous analysis of carbon and total nitrogen in aqueous and solid samples.

Thermo Fisher Scientific launched a new version of the Thermo Scientific K-Alpha X-ray photoelectron spectrometer, featuring improved spectroscopic performance and better automation.

Thermo Fisher Scientific introduced an automated milling solution for preparing ferrous metal samples for optical emission and XRF spectrometry. The system combines the Haas Mini Mill milling machine with the Thermo Scientific ARL PrepControl automation extension.

Thermo Fisher Scientific released the Thermo Scientific ARL SMS-2500 automated solution for optical emission and XRF spectrometers for the iron and steel industry. It features Thermo Scientific SMS software and a medium-size industrial robot from FANUC.

Shimadzu launched the PDA-8000 optical emission spectrometer, which can detect carbon in iron/steel down to 5 ppm and phosphor down to 4 ppm.

XOS introduced the signal analyzer monochromatic WD-XRF spectrometer, which detects silicon down to 0.5 ppm and has a ten-minute measurement cycle.

XOS launched the HD Maxine XRF spectrometer for trace metal analysis in hydrocarbon matrices.

Sales/Orders of Note

Analytik Jena announced in November 2010 that it received an order for 39 ZEEnit Series atomic absorption spectrometers from the Polish Inspectorate of Environmental Protection. Delivery and installation are slated to be completed by April.
