Beckman Coulter CEO Resigns

Earlier this year, Beckman Coulter recalled its AccuTnI troponin test kits for the diagnosis of cardiac events used on its UniCel DxI immunoassay system, citing a positive testing bias. The FDA also notified Beckman Coulter that the company did not obtain the necessary 510(k) clearance for the test. The company is currently conducting a clinical trial for the test.

Orange County, CA 9/7/10—Beckman Coulter Chairman, President and CEO Scott Garrett has resigned, effective September 6. He will continue as a full-time nonexecutive employee through January 15, 2011. The Board has named J. Robert Hurley interim president and CEO. He has served as senior vice president, Human Resources, and chairman of Beckman Coulter Japan. He most recently led the company’s integration of the Olympus Diagnostics acquisition. “Over the past eight years, five of them as CEO, I’ve had the pleasure and privilege to lead the company through many significant improvements,” stated Mr. Garrett.
