Beckman for Sale?

This year, Beckman Coulter has faced a recall of a diagnostic tests, the resignation of its CEO (see IBO 9/15/10) and lowered its annual forecast (see IBO 7/31/10). If a decision to sell the company is made, the divestment of the analytical product lines could create market opportunities for competitors.

New York, NY 12/9/10—Citing three people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg reported on December 9 that Beckman Coulter is considering a sale of the company or going private and has hired Goldman Sachs Group to study the matter. Possible buyers include private equity groups, industrial conglomerates or diagnostics companies. A decision is not expected for months. Beckman Coulter provides clinical diagnostics systems and assays, as well as analytical instrumentation, including research flow cytometers, centrifuges and capillary electrophoresis systems.
