Biotage Acquires Separations Technology
MIPS (molecularly imprinted polymers) are highly cross-linked polymer phases with predetermined selectivity for a molecule or group of structurally similar molecules. MIP Technologies’ analytical and preparative MIP products for solid phase extraction are exclusively distributed by Sigma-Aldrich Supelco (see IBO 12/15/06). The companies also co-develop products. In addition, MIP Technologies provides products for process applications.
Stockholm, Sweden 4/26/10—Biotage has definitively agreed to acquire MIP Technologies, a developer of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs), for an upfront payment corresponding to an enterprise value for MIP Technologies of SEK 16 million ($2.2 million = SEK 7.17 = $1) and potential performance-based payments. “This is an excellent strategic fit regarding Biotage’s expansion and diversification into markets outside of pharma and it will certainly fuel our efforts within Sample Prep,” stated Biotage President and CEO Torben Jörgensen. “One of our ambitions going forward is to further develop our Sample Prep business and to drive our consumables sales to get a more even balance between the sale of instruments and consumables.” Based in Lund, Sweden, with 17 employees, MIP Technologies generated 2009 revenues of SEK 13 million ($1.8 million). It will be consolidated with Biotage as of April 30.
